TEMPORARY SERVICE UPDATE – FORMAL NOTICE Statement

Kia ora Wellington,

Since 1 November, we have received many calls and messages from loyal customers and members of the public seeking clarification regarding the current status of Kiwi Cabs.

We wish to provide a clear, accurate, and formal update. Current Operating Status Following the introduction of new operating arrangements at Wellington Airport, a number of structural changes occurred which created uncertainty for our driving workforce. As these changes were implemented, many drivers independently chose to join operators with confirmed airport access in order to maintain stable income under the new operating model. Kiwi Cabs currently has an insufficient number of drivers to reliably service pre‑booked jobs. Accordingly, we have suspended pre‑bookings until service capability is restored. Customers may still hail a Kiwi Cabs vehicle on the road, subject to driver availability.

This outcome has been extremely difficult for our team and the many Wellington families whose livelihoods have historically depended on our operations. Impact on Drivers and the Wider Community We acknowledge the challenges faced by our drivers during this period. For many years, Kiwi Cabs operated under the long‑standing FIFO (First‑In–First‑Out) system at the Airport — a model highly valued by drivers because it ensured equitable access, predictable workflow, and fair earning opportunities across all authorized operators. With the transition to the new operating model, drivers were required to make immediate decisions regarding their ability to maintain stable income. We respect the independent choices they made under these circumstances and recognize the difficult position these changes placed them in.

For Wellington passengers, we recognize that the temporary reduction in Kiwi Cabs’ service availability limits transport options in the region.

We have been contacted by many loyal customers expressing concern about the loss of an operator they have relied on for many years, and we are sincerely grateful for the support and understanding shown.

Next Steps and Regulatory Engagement Kiwi Cabs is not closing permanently.

Kiwi Cabs is engaging with relevant authorities to assess the implications of recent operational changes and to ensure that the impacts on drivers, customers, and the wider transport sector are clearly understood.

We will continue to provide transparent updates as we work towards rebuilding service capability and returning to the high standard of fair, community‑focused service we have provided since 2008.
